Two charged in connection with investigation into shooting at Cape Girardeau High School graduation | Crime and courts

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Two charges stemming from the investigation into a shooting that sent two people to the hospital during a high school graduation in Cape Girardeau over the weekend.

The Cape Girardeau Police Department announced that the Cape Girardeau County Prosecutor’s Office has charged Kris E. Owens, 20, of Cape Girardeau, with a Class A felony of first-degree assault, armed criminal action and criminal use of a weapon in connection with the shooting at Show-Me-Center May 19.

In the same news release, police said prosecutors also charged Christopher J. Owens, 41, of Cape Girardeau, with a Class A misdemeanor count of loitering within 500 feet of school property as a registered sex offender.

Kris Owens has no outstanding warrant and Christopher Owens has a $25,000 bond.

The police reported that the prosecutor’s office refused to bring charges against the person of interest in custody. The case is pending further investigation into this individual’s possible involvement.

Two victims were taken to a local hospital.
